Trai Mitra Temple or known as “ Wat Sarm Jeen” by the local people. Located in the China Town area in Bangkok. It is one of the famous temples in Bangkok instead of The Royal Palace, Wat Phra Kaew , Wat Pho and Wat Aroon. The temple named after the golden Buddha in the main hall.

According to its old name as “Three Chinese Temple”. It is understood that 3 Chinese friends built a monastery to serve as a merit-making temple. ( FYI : Trai in the Thai old language means Three, Mitra ( Mit) means friends or friendship)

The main building on the right after you get into the temple ground is the main hall that places the largest golden Buddha image recorded in the Guinness Book by the Guinness World Records. This golden Buddha statue has a face width of 3.01 meters and a height of 3.91 meters. The Buddha can be removed 9 pieces from the base of the Buddha up to 40% pure gold. The face has 80% gold, while the Buddha’s head weighs 45 kilograms of pure gold. 99.99%

Assumed that it was built during the Sukhothai period, Pang Man Wichai ( Victory over the Mara  ) understood that it was originally enshrined at Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai. Later during the reign of King Rama the Great King of Thailand ( King Rama 5th : King Chulalongkorn the Great) had an order to  the Department of the Royal Household to invite the Buddha images from the northern region ( Sukhothai province) to be enshrined in Bangkok.There are many Buddha images invited. Causing inadequate care then one of the nobleman secretly took the golden Buddha image and brought it to the temple he built and covered with the hard clay. Meanwhile the Buddha image was brought to Phraya Krai Temple (Chotikaram Temple) which was abandon and  later East Asia Teak ( The teak wood company around 1900 Ads)  rent at the temple (Which at that time was an abandoned temple) was a sawmill .They had built the rough to the side of the pagoda with a zinc rough roof to place the Buddha image. After nearly 20 years, when the new temple and the new temple were completed, it was brought up and enshrined. But while moving the cement covering the Buddha’s shell opened and finally found the Golden Buddha inside on 25 May 1955 until present.

Trai Mitra Temple would be one of the attraction you shouldn’t miss.
