Wat Tha Sung , Uthaithani province.

 

Wat Tha Sung ( Crystal Temple or Diamond Temple) located in Uthaithani Province, small province in the central part of Thailand. It takes around 3 hours driving from Bangkok. Uthaithani province is famous side among the locals as it has the temples where the local Thais usually visit like Wat Khoa Sakae Krang over the hill where you could see the birds’eyes view of Unthathani town from the balcony of the temple. Other temple that we are going to tell you in this page is about “ Wat Tha Sung” or well known now as the Crystal temple or Diamond temple because of the way the temple decorated all in small pieces of mirrors.

The temple dated back to Ayutthaya period when it was the capital of Siam ( Around  1789Ads / 231 years ago*). It used to call “ Wat Chan or Wat Chantharam” by follow the old abbot at that time. For many years, until “ Luang Por Rue Sii Ling Dam”, one of the monk became the abbot. He had built the news building ( Ubosoth) and decorates with small pieces of mirror and became famous as it is beautiful and elaborate design. This building also became the meditation center for public who prefer seeking the peaceful mind. The open time for the Crystal Hall or the Diamond Hall is from 9.00am – 11.45am ( Morning time) and 2.00pm – 4.00pm ( Afternoon time) as there are people and monks meditation inside.

The temple area of Wat Tha Sung is very big for both sides of the main street. The temple area consists of the main hall ( Crystal Hall) , The Golden Castle at the back of the temple which is also very beautiful ( Open 9.00am – 4.00pm.) , Walking Hall which there are many Buddha image statues along the way. On the other side of the street also the old building of the temple area of Wt Tha Sung ( Wat Chan / Wat Chantharam) and the beautiful hall at the front.  Other area of the temple ground has a school to support the education also the area where you could feed the fish in the Sakae Krang River.

This place you could combine with the trip from Bangkok to Chiang Mai that you could stop overnight on the way and see more about culture and people. You might love the small town here, Unthaithani province.
